Westworld Bernard Teddy Theory – Westworld’s B=T Theory Explains Teddy Is in Bernard’s Body
We’re only two episodes into Season Two, and already there have been theories about human clones, multiple Bernards, and Greek symbols. But the latest theory involves switching the consciousness of hosts into different bodies—in this case, Teddy’s mind into Bernard’s body.
The basis of this theory involves part of the multiple Bernard theory, which analyzed the scar from when the poor robot shot himself at the end of Season One. That scar appears to have been inconsistent throughout Season Two, suggesting there multiple Bernard bodies—one with the scar and one without.
In Episode One of this season, the show established that hosts’ consciousness is stored in some sort of egg thing in their brain. At the end of the Season Two premiere, Bernard looks out at a lake of murdered hosts. As the Reddit user theorizes:
“I killed them, all of them” – well isn’t that Teddy’s whole Season 1 arc? Killing all the other hosts on Dolores’ behalf is what Teddy does. That guilt is his cornerstone. And that long shot at the end is Bernard fixating on Teddy Flood’s drowned corpse? (Yup, Flood, literally the instrument of an angry god who wants to scrub the world clean of his creations – I’m new to this sub, this must have been discussed at length in S1 but I just realized it).
But, to take this a step further, we know that Dolores and Teddy are currently heading toward some sort of weapon that will destroy Westworld. Some think this is a dam that will flood the entire park. It’s possible that the Dolores timeline is taking place at the same time that Bernard is with Charlotte Hale. And some time between then and when Bernard wakes up on the beach, their bodies get switched and Dolores releases the flood, which would explain why they found the mysterious lake; Teddy being inside Bernard’s confused body knows he killed them all—including himself. That would explain why, in the Charlotte Hale timeline, Bernard still knows how to do maintenance on the hosts, which Teddy wouldn’t understand.
The other clues are a little shakier, as they come from the Season Two Rickroll that isn’t exactly legit canon. But cocreators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy are experts at misdirection and could have put a few sneaky clues into the joke video. In that, it shows Bernard waking up in the same train seat from Teddy’s loop.
None of this exactly explains exactly why they would go through the trouble of putting Teddy’s mind into Bernard’s body, but it’s possible that they all needed to switch bodies before the flood killed all the hosts. Additionally, if we’ve already established that there are multiple Bernard bodies, perhaps they picked Teddy to be placed in one of these host models as some sort of undercover ally.
Of course, this is all fun speculation, and it could be nothing but a way to show your galaxy brain to your friends when they bring up the simple multiple Bernard theories.
