Vince Gilligan Is Making a Breaking Bad Movie
Anyone who’s watched Breaking Bad in its entirety should know that it doesn’t set itself up very well for any sort of sequel—at least not one starring Walter White. But while the critically acclaimed series had a pretty clear-cut conclusion for its lead character, Vince Gilligan is somehow making a Breaking Bad movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
It’s unclear if the two-hour film will have a theatrical run or air on television. The details about the project are scarce, but a source tells THR that it will “follow the escape of a kidnapped man and his quest for freedom.” (Will we finally get justice for Huell?)
At this point, it’s unknown if this will be another prequel like Better Call Saul or a sequel to the original series. What is certain is that it will film in the Breaking Bad universe and it will film in New Mexico.
One clear possibility for the movie would be to pick up where Jesse Pinkman’s story left off. When we last see Jesse, he’s escaped the danger alive, crying with happiness as he flees. His conclusion is more or less left ambiguous, so there is the possibility—with Walter White dead—for the movie to continue Jesse’s story.
Gilligan will write the movie, executive produce, and possibly direct. Better Call Saul producers Mark Johnson and Melissa Bernstein are also attached to the film, which is expected to begin production in New Mexico this month.
There’s always the possibility that Walt Jr. grows up to follow in dad’s footsteps using the money left to him in that trust fund…
