Troye Sivan Announces Major Label Debut: ‘TRXYE’

Troye Sivan has finally confirmed details of the “secret project” he’s been working on for over a year.

During an interview with YouTube personality Tyler Oakley on the VidCon main stage earlier today, the singer, actor, and YouTube vlogger finally confirmed he will be releasing an EP.

Titled TRXYE, the 5-track EP will serve as Sivan’s major-label début when it’s released on August 15, 2014. Sivan signed to EMI/Universal Music, who are backing this release, on his birthday last year and had the opportunity to write and record at the iconic Capitol Records building in Los Angeles. 5 Seconds of Summer and fellow YouTuber Tori Kelly are just two of Sivan’s new label-mates at the legendary record label.

“I wrote over 40 songs and it’s been the most intense and insane journey. I’ve had to keep it a secret from your guys the entire time, so finally it gives me such pleasure to announce [TRXYE],” Sivan said in a video announcement those unable to be at Vidcon this year.

Sivan has been dropping hints about the album for months now making it, perhaps, the worst kept secret in YouTube history.

However, it’s incredible to see a multi-talented YouTuber who started on the site as a fetus singing cover songs come full circle. Sivan has grown to become an internationally recognized actor and vlogger, and now he’s taking that passion that got him started on YouTube to the next level.

Sivan released his first EP, titled The June Haverly EP, in 2012. The record was released independently and the title track was the first song Sivan had ever written on his own.
