SNL’s ‘Weekend Update’ Covered the Latest in the Trade Conflict and the Border Debate
On Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update, anchors Colin Jost and Michael Che hit all the week’s news, from the looming trade war, to Trump’s decision to deploy the National Guard to a southern border where illegal crossings are at historical lows. “It’s all part of Trump’s philosophy,” says Jost. “‘If it ain’t broke, I’ll break it.'”
“So now Trump is just sending the National Guard, not even the Army?” asked Che. “This is such a Trump move. He promises a big, beautiful wall, and then the wall becomes a fence, and then the fence becomes the Army, and then the Army becomes the National Guard. Pretty soon it’s just going to be a ‘Beware of Dog’ sign.”
Alex Moffat made an appearance as a Mark Zuckerberg who’s been practicing really hard for his upcoming congressional hearing. “Look, unlike my facial expression, Facebook, is going to change,” he promised.
Despite the relentless stream of controversies at the company he founded, he claimed to “sleep easy at night, upside down in my pressurized sleep egg.”
“Sure, maybe Facebook sold out our democracy to Russian troll farms,” he added. “My bad? But on the other hand: Farmville.”
