“Roseanne” Reboot Ratings Were Massive

Looks like America was ready to say hello to the Conner family once more. The premiere of the Roseanne reboot had huge ratings, Entertainment Weekly reports, and that’s a great sign of success for the show.

Tuesday night’s episode had 18.2 million viewers, ABC announced, which makes it the highest rated comedy episode on any broadcast networks in nearly four years. The last time an episode hit that level was a season premiere of The Big Bang Theory back in 2014. The ratings were reportedly even higher, when it comes to total viewers, than the finale of Roseanne back in 1997. And the audience actually grew from the first part of the episode to the second, showing that people stayed interested.

In the 18-49 demographic, the Roseanne premiere had better ratings than regular episodes of This Is Us, the other runaway television hit from recent years, though it didn’t outperform the big Super Bowl episode. And The Hollywood Reporter notes that another sitcom revival, Will and Grace, had just over 10 million viewers during its premiere episode, which is still strong, but nowhere near Roseanne. According to Variety, the Big Bang Theory spinoff, Young Sheldon, had a more sizable 17.2 million viewers when it premiered.

Roseanne Barr took to Twitter to thank fans for tuning in in droves, especially since she had to sacrifice a lot to get the show made. “Here’s to making America laugh and talk again!” she wrote. “You guys made it all worth it!”

thrilled and proud of everyone who worked to make it a success!!!
