Robert Durst Regrets Appearing in HBO’s ‘The Jinx’

Remember black-eyed gremlin Robert Durst, whose alleged multi-decade murder spree inaugurated the era of prestige true-crime TV through HBO’s The Jinx? It turns out that he’s had some second thoughts about participating in the documentary.

The Los Angeles Times reports that during a hearing held Thursday for Durst’s trial in the murder of his friend Susan Berman, officials played a recorded jailhouse phone call from 2015. In it, Durst told a friend that he regretted being involved in the documentary, and that he “definitely had a problem” with the series.

That Durst had a problem with The Jinx is not at all surprising, considering the fact that the documentary is directly responsible for his arrest. After all, the filmmakers found a letter that may link Durst to Berman’s murder. And then there’s the fact that they also caught him muttering to himself on a hot mic, saying, “What the hell did I do? Killed them all, of course.”

Let that be a lesson to all the accused criminals out there—resist the lure of premium cable stardom.
