Robert De Niro’s Robert Mueller Paid the Trump Brothers a Visit on SNL
Saturday Night Live brought back Robert De Niro as Robert Mueller for its latest cold open, capping off a week full of Mueller news. In the sketch, Mueller visits Eric Trump (Alex Moffat) and Donald Trump Jr. (Mikey Day).
SNL’s depiction of Don Jr. as the slick but kindly caretaker to an infantile Eric are among the show’s best Trump administration parodies. This time, Don Jr. read Eric a bedtime story, after watching the news rendered him too frightened to fall asleep.
“They said they’re going to indict you,” said Moffat.
“Don’t worry about that, pal,” Day reassured him. “But hey, I am impressed that you know what indict means!”
“‘Indict,'” said Moffat proudly, “There’s no sugar indict Coke”
Later, De Niro steps out of Eric’s closet. His Mueller has always pretty much just been Robert De Niro reading cue cards while wearing a jowly prosthesis, and this time around there are some stumbles and iffy line readings.
“People say you’re the worst thing to ever happen to my dad,” Moffat said.
“No,” De Niro replied. “Getting elected president was the worst thing to ever happen to your dad.” Check out the sketch below.
