Rey, Poe Meeting Star Wars The Last Jedi
Oddly enough, Rey and Poe Dameron—two of the main heroes of the new Star Wars trilogy—do not meet until the very end of The Last Jedi. We know them both quite well, as does the rest of the Resistance. They’re both a pretty big deal; Rey is the mysterious Force user who defeated Kylo Ren and found Luke Skywalker, and Poe is the hotshot Resistance pilot. And even though Rey found his droid on Jakku and they were both in the same frame briefly in a scene in The Force Awakens, the two had never properly met on camera.
So, it was a big deal when they finally introduced themselves to each other at the end of The Last Jedi. And since it was a long time coming, writer-director Rian Johnson put a lot of meaning into their very brief interaction in the movie. As a Reddit user points out, Rey introduces herself and Poe responds with “I know.” Of course, fans will remember Harrison Ford’s iconic ad-libbed line in The Empire Strikes Back when Leia tells him she loves him and he replies, “I know.” But this also very quickly shows how Rey’s legend is growing in the Star Wars universe. She’s a hero in the same way Luke was at a young age, with stories about her spreading not just through the Resistance but through the galaxy as a whole.
If we want to dig a little deeper, one might even think that Poe and Rey’s interaction could be foreshadowing for a possible future relationship. Of course, that would really piss off all the Poe and Finn shippers out there.
