Pearl Jam Poster Features Dead Donald Trump and White House in Flames, Outraging Republicans
Oh man, I can imagine Donald Trump’s tweet already: “Irrelevant (no talent) Pearl Jam, who hasn’t been famous since the 90’s, thinks killing Trump will help their poorly selling concerts. This is treason!”
That’s because Pearl Jam’s latest tour poster is a cartoon depiction of the White House in flames, which also has what appears to be Donald Trump’s corpse lying on the front lawn being picked at by vultures.
It’s entirely unsubtle!
Pearl Jam’s bassist Jeff Ament—who designed the poster with artist Bobby Brown—explained the poster’s design in a statement, also referencing the upcoming senatorial election in Montana:
D.C. burning Tester Evel Knievel on tractor … over the cesspool below … Russian money, golf courses, hookers? … Maryalnd Matt. Stars n stripes as flames … Y’all know the deal. We’re at a tipping point and it’s time for action … Jon Tester is the real deal and nobody cares more about our country and especially Montana. So here we are … This was a fun collab with one of my favorite artists, Bobby Draws Skulls. He killed it!
Immediately, the poster drew fire from conservative critics, with Tester’s Republican opponent Matt Rosendale writing on Twitter: “This poster from Pearl Jam is disgusting and reprehensible. It depicts a dead President Trump and a burning White House. It’s time for [Jon Tester] to denounce this act of violence and blatant display of extremism!”
Anyway, this is nothing new for Pearl Jam, a band that has been vocally liberal for its entire existence and is known for acts of political speech at their concerts. Throughout the 2000s Eddie Vedder, would impale President George W. Bush’s severed head on a microphone stand.
Since we’re living in the dumbest time, this poster will almost certainly impact the outcome of the midterm elections.
