Obama Sent A-Rod and J-Lo a Note to Congratulate Them on Their Engagement

Among the plebs, love knows no higher societal recognition than a mention in The New York Times wedding announcements. But the super famous have to aim higher, and Jennifer Lopez and her fiancé Alex Rodriguez just landed one of the best possible engagement presents: A congratulatory note from former president Barack Obama himself.

Obama sent the celebrity pair a tender message based on his own quarter century of marriage. “Michelle and I just wanted to congratulate you on your engagement,” he wrote. “After 26 years together, we can say that whatever challenges life may bring, sharing them with someone you love makes it all better.”

The mononymic duo have been dating for two well-documented years. A-Rod let J-Lo teach him a thing or two about baseball analysis, and J-Lo convinced A-Rod to wear a Pepto-Bismol hued suit, all culminating in promises of forever and an engagement ring worth between one and five million dollars. The pair has also been highly active in charitable efforts for post-Hurricane Maria Puerto Rico, with Lopez personally donating a million dollars in aid.

“We’re very much twins,” Rodriguez told Vanity Fair of the relationship. “We’re both Leos; we’re both from New York; we’re both Latino and about 20 other things.”

Obama and A-Rod have known each other at least since 2010, when the then-third baseman visited the White House with the rest of the 2009 World Series-winning New York Yankees. Early last year, the two spoke at the same MIT sports analytics conference, and Lopez shared a photo of the two men to her Instagram.
