Meet Robert Brotherton, Julia Haart’s Right-Hand Man in ‘My Unorthodox Life’
Julia Haart, star of Netflix’s My Unorthodox Life, has a lot going on, what with running a modeling conglomerate, starring in a reality docuseries, and raising four children at the intersection of traditional Orthodox Judaism and the modern world. It takes a village to keep her world spinning—and that’s where Robert Brotherton comes in.
Ever since My Unorthodox Life premiered earlier in July, Brotherton has become a fan favorite character, with Netflix viewers clamoring to know more about him. Some fans are even calling for Brotherton to get his own spin-off, celebrating his deadpan zingers and his Texas catch-phrases. At Elite World Group, where Haart heads up the organization as co-owner and Chief Executive Officer, Brotherton serves as Chief Operating Officer, making him Haart’s right-hand man. The two go way back to La Perla, where Haart rose to prominence as creative director, and where Brotherton once worked as Global Director of Marketing and Public Relations.
As a longtime colleague and trusted family friend, Brotherton brings warmth, real talk, and even babysitting skills to My Unorthodox Life—as well as an outside perspective, given that he doesn’t share the Haart family’s ultra-Orthodox background. But Brotherton has a family storyline of his own. In one of the show’s more poignant sub-plots, Brotherton, who was adopted as an infant, embarks on a journey to find his birth mother and learn more about his family history. Depicting Brotherton’s fear of disappointing his adoptive parents, along with his desire to know more about his biological family, the storyline highlights a crossroads many adoptees come to. The show also sees him movingly confront self-worth issues that have prevented him from dating for four years, culminating in Haart throwing a funeral for his insecurities.

Brotherton keeps his personal life quiet, but you can find him on Instagram, where he shares snapshots of his glamorous work life with Haart, along with selfies and photos with friends. You can also follow his new dog, Richard, a Bernese Mountain Dog and Poodle mix with his own Instagram page. Wearing a chic yellow backpack, Richard attended the My Unorthodox Life premiere party in New York City, which promptly tuckered him out. Will Richard make an appearance on My Unorthodox Life one day? We sure hope so.
