Marge Simpson and The Simpsons Respond to Trump Advisor Jenna Ellis’ Kamala Harris Comparison

For years, fans of The Simpsons have tried to figure out 1. if the show has a political undertone, and 2. which way it leans, if it does. The answer has never quite been clear (Except for that leftist extremist, Lisa. We see you), but after an offhanded tweet from Trump’s senior advisor, Jenna Ellis, Marge Simpson’s hand has been forced. Shame on all of us for bringing her into this mess. Shame.

In a tweet from the official Twitter account for The Simpsons, Marge appears on stage and announces that she doesn’t normally get into politics, but she heard that Ellis said Democratic Vice Presidential nominee Kamala Harris sounds like her. And according to Lisa, it wasn’t a compliment.

Marge then goes onto say that she’s starting to feel a little disrespected. “I teach my children not to name call, Jenna.” Naturally, like members of this administration are wont to do, Ellis along with other Trump surrogates have gobbled the clip up like a bunch of marbles in a game of Hungry, Hungry Hippos. Ellis quote tweeted the clip and said Marge was probably going to vote Democrat… by mail. (Unclear if that’s a punchline.)

But it might behoove the GOP to be nice to The Simpsons, considering that the series seemingly remains one of the few vestiges of political balance. Throughout the years, people have studied the series and tried to determine its political leaning only to discover that it’s pretty much an even split when it comes to how the series has satirized politics. Starting back with the first Bush family, The Simpsons have regularly fired off barbs at politicians. Since then, Clinton, Romney, Gore, Obama, nor Trump have been immune. Also, it’s important to remember that The Simpsons literally predicted that Donald Trump would be president one day, so clearly they know more than we do.

All of this is to say, presidents come and go, but The Simpsons is forever. And comparing your adversary to a beloved television mother who is just trying to be an innocent suburban housewife? Well, you might’ve played yourself, Jenna.
