Mandalorian Season 2 Fan Theory Connects Baby Yoda to a Star Wars Chosen One Prophecy

This might surprise you (it surprised me, at least), but Baby Yoda was not born into the Star Wars galaxy simply to eat joysticks, peek from behind corners, and perform assorted acts of cuteness. As the end of Season One of The Mandalorian reminded us, the show has big plans for the lil’ guy—the finale teases a Season Two where Mando sets out to reunite Baby Yoda with his Baby Yoda people.

Though, according to a Mandalorian theory from Reddit user AndreLoga, Star Wars might have an arc set up for Baby Yoda that will affect the franchise’s entire future. There’s a ton of deep-cut Star Wars lingo in this one, so here’s the gist: The user breaks down The Vitae Arc and The Mortis Arc, which are basically the prophecy the Skywalker Saga is built on. Basically, a baby is born to save the galaxy (Anakin Skywalker), but not without the kid growing up to flirt with the Dark Side, so much that they have to be redeemed before the galaxy-saving. As the theory explains:

“The Chosen One prophecy is the prophecy of The Mortis Arc. “A Chosen One shall come, born of no father, and through him will ultimate balance in the Force be restored.” In The Mortis Arc, the only one ‘born of no father’ is The Father himself. That is why The Father wants Anakin to remain in Mortis, because he is his true successor.

This Mortis Arc business adds that, at the same time the Chosen One is born, a Child is born to help the galaxy-saver find their true path. AndreLoga thinks that the Child is The Child—i.e. what The Mandalorian refers to Baby Yoda as. So in this case, Baby Yoda would grow up to mentor the next Chosen One:

“Every time the cycle restarts, The Child and the chosen one are born anew. The chosen one grows up, falls to the dark side, but is redeemed and restores balance to the galaxy, becoming The Father; The Child, still just a baby, lives on to centuries later train the one who’ll turn the next chosen one back to the light side.”

The theory adds why Ahsoka Tano is in The Mandalorian’s Season Two mix—to mentor Baby Yoda, and help him become ready to help the next Chosen One.

“Ever since she was first saved, Ahsoka has been shown to have a deep connection to The Daughter, notably, by being followed by Morai. That tells me Ahsoka will be The Mother and she’ll rescue The Child at some point to protect the next cycle.”

If any of this turns out to be true, you could see where the minds at Lucasfilm might take this. With the Skywalker Saga over, could Baby Yoda—in a new trilogy set a thousand-some years in the future—grow up to mentor the next Chosen One? Which would make The Mandalorian one big origin story for the next Yoda in Star Wars lore. Certainly not all of the details add up in this particular theory, but it does make for a compelling explanation for Baby Yoda’s age and the mystery surrounding his species. Certainly, a being this powerful with the Force will be a major player in what’s to come, and it will take quite a while to get there after the events of The Mandalorain and even past the conclusion of the Skywalker Saga. But, maybe we’re getting ahead of ourselves. In the meantime, we’ll have to see what The Mandalorian shows us when it returns this October.
