Lorraine Warren Dead – The Famed Demonologist Inspired The Conjuring

Lorraine Warren, the famed demonologist whose story inspired The Conjuring horror franchise, has died at the age of 92. Warren’s son-in-law, Tony Spera, confirmed the news to The Patch.

Warren and her late husband Ed Warren traveled the world throughout the 1970s investigating paranormal activity. Their case files have inspired classic horror films The Conjuring 2, Anabelle and Annabelle: Creation, The Nun, and the 1979 original The Amityville Horror.

“It is with deep sadness that I must announce that Lorraine Warren has passed away,” Spera said in a statement. “She died peacefully in her sleep at home last night.

“Lorraine touched many lives and was loved by so many,” the statement continued. “She was a remarkable, loving, compassionate and giving soul. To quote Will Rogers, she never met a person she didn’t like. She was an avid animal lover and contributed to many animal charities and rescues. She was wonderful and giving to her entire family. May God Bless her.”

Throughout her life, Lorraine—who claimed to be clairvoyant and a light trance medium—wrote 10 books with her husband and founded the New England Society For Psychic Research.

Last year, Spera told Esquire.com about his mother’s encounter that inspired the look of the demon Valak in the Conjuring series.

“Lorraine was at home in her bed, reading, when she started to feel a presence” Spera says. “Something wrong, and she saw a black whirlwind of black mass enter the room, it was like a vortex blacker than the night.”

Lorraine was portrayed by Vera Farmiga in The Conjuring, The Conjuring 2, and Annabelle Comes Home.
