Justin Timberlake Man of the Woods Country Album
Here at Man of the Woods Watch, we’ve been patiently waiting weeks to see the Extremely Country Guy Justin Timberlake™ emerge from his secluded log cabin with his new album Man of the Woods. But so far, the closest thing we’ve gotten are some very country sounding song titles and a li’l bit o’ Chris Stapleton. Otherwise, his songs have been very typical Justin Timberlake—which is to say, hip-hop-influenced neo-R&B and definitely not country music, as all his album marketing up until this very point implied.
Now, days before his big PG-rated Super Bowl halftime show with absolutely no brief nudity, Timberlake has confirmed that he is indeed not a Man of the Woods.
“By the way, the album is named after my son,” he says in a new video he posted to Twitter. “His name means ‘Of the Woods,’ so stop telling me I’m making a country album.”
But if Justin Timberlake is not the “Man of the Woods,” and his son is “Of the Woods” who is the titular Man of the Woods? Is this the man Timberlake hopes his child becomes? Is this referring to his unborn grandchild? Perhaps this is a fictional “man.” Maybe “man” is just a metaphor for the human condition.
Regardless, this is a relief, because after spending his entire career appropriating black culture, this would be a pretty awkward time in our nation’s history for Timberlake to suddenly embrace his whiteness.
Thanks for clarifying, Justin.
