Josh Homme Shared His Daughter’s Letter from Anthony Bourdain
The three weeks since Anthony Bourdain‘s death have been flooded with warm recollections of his talent and kindness. Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme is the latest notable to offer a fond remembrance of Bourdain, posting to social media a letter his late friend wrote to Homme’s daughter, Camille.
Bourdain wrote the now-12-year-old Camille after learning that she’d been upset by a promo for his show, No Reservations. In the sketch, the writer and chef grabbed Homme’s guitar and smashed it, Animal House-style.
Upon hearing that he’d offended Camille, Bourdain wrote the child an adorable letter explaining that the whole thing was a joke.
“Dear Camille, I hear you were very upset with me after seeing the promo for this show, which I filmed recently with your Daddy and his friends,” wrote Bourdain. “You saw me take Daddy’s guitar and smash it against a tree and I’m sure that was upsetting. That this was in fact a not so subtle homage to the early works of John Landis and John Belushi is something you could have hardly been expected to know, Animal House having been released long before you were born, and I apologize.”
“Know that that was in fact, not really Daddy’s guitar, and that we were both just playing around,” he continued. “In real life, Daddy would have been very angry were I to do such a thing — and as he is a large man, I strongly suspect I would not still be here to write this letter. I like your Daddy very much. We are friends.”
Bourdain finished the letter by describing Bourdain as a “pretty good cook.”
“I cook my daughter grilled cheese sandwiches” he told Camille. “What does your Daddy cook you? Sincerely, Anthony.”
Homme posted the full letter to Twitter with a note reading,”Tony, I miss you bad.”
Tony, I miss you bad. Once, Camille was so mad at you. She was defending me. & So were you. Ariane, this was your father. Humbly yours, Joshua pic.twitter.com/sR3mwO5WBI
