John Goodman Returned to ‘SNL’ as a Rex Tillerson Who’s “Still Processing”

Saturday Night Live’s cold open tackled the revolving door at the Trump White House via a segment on CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360°. Cooper (Alex Moffat) interviewed guests Attorney General Jeff Sessions (Kate McKinnon), America’s sweetheart Anthony Scaramucci, Fire and Fury author Michael Wolff, and now-former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, played by host Bill Hader and special guests Fred Armisen and John Goodman, respectively.

In the sketch, being forced to fire former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe was a bridge too far for Sessions. “I’m just a simple man who wanted to make things bad for immigrants,” said McKinnon. “And now, here I am, taking away the pension of a Christian white. It ain’t right.”

Goodman’s Tillerson was still trying to cope with his abrupt termination-by-tweet, curling his hands into dinosaur claws and growling.”Call Jurassic Park, ’cause the Rex-y’s loose!”

“The fidget spinner of the Trump White House” Scaramucci (“I made a big splash, then one day everybody was like, ‘Whoa, what the hell was that about?”) and journalist Michael Wolff added color commentary. Though exiled from the White House, Armisen-as-Wolff insisted that his sources claim Trump has narrowed his search for McCabe’s replacement down to two candidates—”Milwaukee Sheriff David Clarke or the president’s favorite TV detective, Monk.”
