Everyone Loves the Google Arts and Culture App

It’s the first long weekend of 2018,and we are all sitting around voluntarily providing facial scans to Google goons in the interest of culture.

As often happens with these fleeting internet moments, the Google Arts and Culture app seemed to come from nowhere and is now everywhere. It climbed to the top of the app store this long weekend, hitting #1 on Saturday. After a simple download, users can use their front-facing cameras to take a selfie. Google then scans the user’s face and compares it with faces in artworks all around the world to find a match.

Who doesn’t love looking at photos of themselves? And finding their Renaissance-era doppelganger? The allure is obvious, and now thousands of people have not only used the app, but shared the results to social media.

Including, of course, celebrities.

Perhaps the best entry, celebrity or otherwise, is that from Billie Lourd, Carrie Fisher’s daughter.

What fun, privacy-busting app will come along next? Oh, the fun we ca have.
