Danny Boyle Quit ‘Bond 25’ After a Disagreement With Daniel Craig

Between Danny Boyle leaving Bond 25 and Idris Elba confirming he won’t play the character, there hasn’t been much good 007 news this week.

And now, more details have emerged about why Boyle decided to back out of directing the next Bond movie. As it turns out, he got in a disagreement with Daniel Craig over casting the villain. According to the Telegraph, the argument was over whether to cast Tomasz Kot, the Polish actor from Cold War, who was described as a “left-field” decision for a Bond bad guy.

A source tells the Telegraph that Craig has a say in all casting decisions, having picked all of his female co-stars since Casino Royale. It’s also why Craig’s name was included in the official release about Boyle’s departure.

The filmmakers wanted to bring back the Cold War style tension, but update it to modern day. The problems arose when they were making the final casting decisions. As the Telegraph points out, producers gave Boyle an already completed script. The director’s “insistence on bringing an entirely new team, including his established writing partner John Hodge, infuriated Bond producer Barbara Broccoli,” according to the Telegraph.

Now it’s unclear which script producers will go with: the original or Boyle’s updated version.

This project has been messy from the very beginning, with Craig’s lengthy media campaign about how he’d rather slit his wrists than play James Bond again. This would have never happened if Idris were there.
