Casey Neistat and Caspar Lee are among the latest digital stars to sign with Hollywood talent agency William Morris Endeavor (WME).
Lee was recently spotted on WME’s internal roster, along with the Fung Brothers, MyCupcakeAddiction’s Elise Strachan, Aussie fitness guru Emily Skye, and Vsauce3’s Jake Roper. The Hollywood Reporter was also able to confirm that innovative vlogger and filmmaker Casey Neistat entered into an exclusive partnership with the agency.
In the past, YouTubers with silver screen ambitions would have to seek out representation on their own. But now, as trends continue to shift, it seems these talent agencies have tried to snap up as much digital talent as they can.
“Because the world is changing so fast, we saw there would be new opportunities for our clients to take advantage of. Particularly with technology changing,” WME co-CEO Patrick Whitesell said; explaining the company’s new-found acceptance of digital stars last year. The self-made celebrity of digital talent is easy to translate over to traditional mediums; which is why competition for YouTubers, Viners, and other social stars is so fierce. Neistat, for example, was previously represented by WME’s biggest rival, CAA.
