Bill Murray Made a Surprise ‘SNL’ Appearance as Steve Bannon
Alec Baldwin’s Donald Trump was absent from the first SNL cold open of 2017, with the show instead parodying one of the president’s favorite news shows—MSNBC’s Morning Joe. Alex Moffat played Joe Scarborough, with Kate McKinnon as co-host Mika Brzezinski. SNL alum Fred Armisen made a guest appearance as Fire and Fury author Michael Wolff, and Bill Murray made a hilarious surprise turn as Steve Bannon.
Asked if there was anything he’d left out of the book, Armisen as Wolff described Oval Office “baby races.”
“Trump would ask to have two babies placed in his office, usually of different ethnicities. Someone would put a bowl of Goldfish crackers on the other side of the room, and Trump would say, ‘A thousand dollars on the black one.’”
“Is that real?” asked McKinnon. “Yeah,” shrugged Armisen. “Even the stuff that’s not true, it’s true.”
Then, to an extended applause, Bill Murray appeared as Bannon. He let us know what he’s up to these days, now that he’s out at Breitbart. “I’m working on a web series for Crackle. It’s called Cucks in Cars Getting Coffee,” said Murray. “And I’m also coming out with a line of wrinkled barn jackets called Frumpers for Guys. Springtime: skincare line—‘Blotch.’”
And Murray’s Bannon knows he can make a political comeback: “I convinced this country to elect Donald, and I can do it again. Already auditioning candidates, got some prospects. Logan Paul, Martin Shkreli, the Subway guy, Jared Fogle. He’s back, he’s electable.”
