Alec Baldwin’s Trump Admitted on ‘SNL’ That He Doesn’t “Care About America”
Alec Baldwin returned to last night’s episode of “Saturday Night Live,” playing a Trump that, much like the real president, is following his id more than ever. The sketch took the form of a press conference broadcast by Fox News. (Before the proceedings begin, anchor Leslie Jones interrupts her broadcast: “We have another Fox News alert: Mexicans.”)
The press conference found a deeply bored Baldwin trying to stay on-script as he meets with leaders of the Baltic states. “Let’s make this quick because I’ve got a lot of trade wars to escalate here, O.K.?” he says, before introducing his guests. “We have the leaders of the Baltic States; we’ve got Estonia, Lithuania, and, I wanna say, Stankonia.”
One reporter asks if Trump really hates Jeff Bezos so much. “I do, I hate Jeff,” Baldwin replies. “Because he’s way richer than me and he admits to being bald, so I feel threatened on two levels.”
In a similarly frank spirit, Baldwin-as-Trump wraps up the conference by admitting to what many have long suspected. “I. Don’t. Care. About. America,” he says, doing a little jig for emphasis. “This whole presidency is a four-year cash grab, and admitting that will probably get me four more years.”
