A Yeezy Launch Was Cancelled After No One Showed Up

Maybe it was the slides. Maybe it was the MAGA. Maybe it was the impressively horrible take on American slavery. Maybe the event just wasn’t well publicized. All we know is that for whatever reason, so few people showed up to a Yeezy launch in Sydney, Australia, that the event was shut down in less than an hour.

Last Saturday, big crowds were expected to greet the debut of Kanye West’s fashion label’s collaboration with Australian sportswear brand 2XU. The line boasted $375 bike shorts and $415 neoprene leggings—always sure to draw a crowd. A 2016 Yeezy launch in Sydney had found fans lining up around the block, but this time, according to The Sydney Morning Herald, customers were a no-show and the event was shut down after just 45 minutes.

On Saturday evening, the tights and shorts were still in abundance on the brand’s online store despite media being told ahead of the launch: “Fans will have to be quick, with a strictly limited number of pieces from the collection available to the public.” The hashtag “#YEEZYx2XU” had only been used 10 times on Instagram.

Sources on Saturday said West’s recent social media exploits, where he has publicly supported US President Donald Trump, negatively impacted the release of the highly anticipated Yeezy x 2XU Season 6 collection.

Hypebeast reports that the collab’s previously operational website has now been returned to a teaser page.
