A Star Is Born 2018 Trailer
The production timeline for A Star Is Born feels like it’s been happening for nearly a decade (thanks Beyoncé, Clint Eastwood, and Tom Cruise). But after all the waiting, the first trailer has finally dropped.
The film, which will be the third remake of the 1937 original, stars Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper (who also makes his directorial debut). Rounding out the supporting cast are Dave Chappelle, Sam Elliot, Andrew Dice Clay, Shangela and Willam from RuPaul’s Drag Race, and Halsey also star.
The film follows Ally (Gaga), a young singer who moves to the big city to make thing happen. She meets Jackson (Cooper), a self-destructive rock star, and romance ensues. That whole trailer looks like one of the best music videos to come out of 2018 so far (and a lot more like the 1976 version starring Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson rather than the 1954 Judy Garland-James Mason musical).
The biggest surprise though is that it appears that Bradley Cooper… can sing?
As Variety reported, before premiering the teaser trailer at CinemaCon this year, Cooper told the crowd that Gaga made it clear, “What I can’t stand in movies is when it’s playback.” And Gaga gets what Gaga wants, so the singing is live.
The film, originally slated for a May release, is now pushed back to October in hopes that it may be an award contender—it has all the trappings of one, too. Cooper’s director cred, less-than-attractive makeover, and singing-turn is the kind of stuff that Hollywood eats up, and with Gaga in tow, A Star is Born is set to earn some Oscar buzz this fall.
