YouTube has had a penchant for live musical events recently – From the famously botched YouTube Music Awards to smaller events celebrating the diversity of musical content on the site. Sitting firmly in the middle of those two extremes stands a new event titled ‘YouTube OnStage Live from the Kennedy Center.’
Lindsey Stirling, Scott Bradlee & Postmodern Jukebox, Les Twins, Mike Relm, and the Playing For Change Band were selected to represent the top-tier of musical talent available on YouTube as they perform alongside John Legend at the free event, which will take place at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Opera House on Wednesday May 28, 2014.
This won’t be violinist Lindsey Stirling’s first performance with John Legend either. The pair collaborated on a cover of Legend’s original song “All Of Me,” which has already racked up over 21 million views.
If you’re in DC and you wish to attend, be sure to get there early.
People in line at the entrance to the Hall of Nations at 6pm on the day of the performance will be given up to two free tickets each. The 2,200-seat venue is sure to fill up quickly, but if you’re not one of the lucky ones (or if you’re lucky enough to not live in DC), the concert will eventually be uploaded to The Kennedy Center’s YouTube channel.
The concert was organized by the Kennedy Center, who have increased their efforts to promote new and diverse forms of music to wider audiences using the internet. Just last week, NPR presented a live video webcast of Blue Note Record’s 75th anniversary celebrations at the Kennedy Center.
